Science at Outwood

It is terrific to be scientific! That is how we like to approach our learning in Science at Outwood. Our aim is to make science engaging, informatative and inspiring.

We aim to teach the children how to be scientists by linking the five scientific enquires to our Acorn Values

The children are given the opportunties to explore the different strands and build on prior knowledge and skills. We believe it is important that the children understand the different apporaches to investigations and develop the independent skills that enable them to identify what approach is needed to further their own learning.  Our progression map ensures a full and rich coverage of exciting and engaging topics. 

At Outwood, we aim link our science to outdoor learning to give each child the opprtunity to understand science in a 'real world' concept and use actual scientists to help broarden the children's understand of discoveries.

Our belief in the importance of science is reflected in our participation in the Great Science Share as well as holding our annual Science Week. 

We are super proud to have been Awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark that reflects the passion we have for this subject
