Science at Outwood

It is terrific to be scientific! That is how we like to approach our learning in Science at Outwood. Our aim is to make science engaging, informatative and inspiring.

Thorughout the school, we teach the children the 5 types of scientific enquiry: 

The children are given the opportunties to explore the different strands and build on prior knowledge and skills. We believe it is important that the children understand the different apporaches to investigations and develop the independent skills that enable them to identify what approach is needed to further their own learning.  Our progression map ensures a full and rich coverage of exciting and engaging topics. 

At Outwood, we link our science to outdoor learning to give each child the opprtunity to understand science in a 'real world' concept. 

Our belief in the importance of science is reflected in our annual science week.

This year our them was 'Aspire to Inspire'. where the childen chose a reange of scientist from across history who they felt were an inspiration to them.
