We care, we learn, we grow

Safeguarding

Outwood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and safer recruitment, for all it’s pupils!

We aim to protect the children at all times and to give all staff clear guidance as to their legal and professional roles and to enable good practice throughout the school which is understood by pupils, parents/carers and staff.

The staff at Outwood Primary School recognise their responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children by protecting them from physical, sexual or emotional abuse, neglect and bullying.

If you have concerns about your own child or another child’s well-being or safety, please speak in the first instance to Mrs Maude, who is our Designated Safeguarding Lead Teacher and in her absence, Mrs Clayton who is our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. They will then make an informed decision, based on the information you have shared, on how to proceed.  This may involve help from outside agencies, the safeguarding team or social services.

Policies and Procedures

Outwood Primary School has policies in place which deal with safeguarding, child protection, safer recruitment and complies with the DFE’s safeguarding children and safer recruitment statutory guidance. We endeavour to ensure that everyone works together to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people. We aim to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our school is committed to the principles outlined in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2018’ and implements policies, practices and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical well being of children, young people and staff.

Curriculum

All children have access to an appropriate curriculum which is broad and balanced and differentiated to meet their needs. This enables them to learn to develop the necessary skills to build self-esteem, respect others, defend those in need, resolve conflict without resorting to violence, question and challenge and to make informed choices in later life. Children are encouraged to express and discuss their ideas, thoughts and feelings through a variety of activities and have access to a range of cultural opportunities which promote the fundamental British values of tolerance, respect, understanding and empathy for others. There is access to a range of extra curricular activities, information and materials from a number of sources which not only promotes these values but supports the social, spiritual, moral well being and physical and mental health of the pupils.

Operation Encompass

All pupils will know that there are adults in the school whom they can approach in confidence if they are in difficulty or feeling worried and that their concerns will be taken seriously and treated with respect.

Outwood Primary School is part of Operation Encompass, a project that runs in partnership with Stockport Safeguarding Board and Greater Manchester Police. The project provides early reporting to schools of any domestic abuse incidents that occur outside of school but which might have an impact on a child attending school on the following day. Police will liaise with a Key Adult (Mrs Maude) in school and share information, in confidence, that will ensure the school is able to support children and their families.

All staff in school are committed to safeguarding all our children
